Amy Earhart
Woodworking Biography:

I remember first watching my Grandfather turn in his basement when I was about four and then when he retired and my grandparents moved to Florida I used to sit out in the garage and watch him; that went on into my late teens. I think the seed was sown. My first turning was in college for an architectural design class, the project was a door knob. Then I had my Grandfather show me how to turn a bowl a few years later. After he passed away I finished turning a bowl that was on his lathe but then did not turn anything for about twenty years. I was shown how to turn a pen and the next thing I knew I was turning about twenty of them for Christmas gifts. All on a drill powered mini lathe! I took a couple of turning classes and then bought a Jet mini lathe. I have done mostly furniture building in the last ten years so I really think of myself as a woodworker who turns rather than a woodturner who does woodworking. I haven’t done much green wood turning and I think I like to turn smaller (less than 8 inches) things. My favorite wood to turn is Mahogany; just like my Grandfather.
